Professor Tao Zan is Chief Physician, Researcher, and PhD Supervisor at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and further enriched his expertise through academic appointments as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan and Paris Public Hospital (APHP). 

Professor Zan holds dual leadership positions as Deputy Director at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Shanghai Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also the Deputy Leader of the Youth Section in the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Vice Chairman of the Youth Committee in the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.

Professor Zan's research focuses on fundamental and clinical studies in tissue repair and reconstruction, particularly in skin regeneration and fibrosis management. Under the mentorship of Professor Qing-Feng Li, Professor Zan pioneered the groundbreaking technique of total facial prefabrication with autologous tissue, now internationally recognized as the "Chinese method" for facial reconstruction - a testament to his surgical innovation and expertise.

An accomplished researcher, Professor Zan has authored 64 SCI-indexed publications as first or corresponding author in prestigious journals including Molecular Therapy, JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, and Advanced Science. His research excellence is further demonstrated through his role as Principal Investigator for six National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects.

Professor Zan's exceptional contributions have been recognized with numerous honours, including the National Outstanding Young Physician Award, Top Talent of the Oriental Scholar Program, and the prestigious Shanghai Silver Snake Award. Professor Zan’s remarkable work also earned him the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (as the third contributor) and the First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (as the second contributor).
