Professor Dora Kwong is a distinguished radiation oncologist and academic leader currently serving as Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Oncology at The University of Hong Kong. With a career dedicated to advancing cancer treatment and research, she has made significant contributions to the fields of head and neck cancers, nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), esophageal and gastrointestinal cancers, and paediatric cancers.
Professor Kwong obtained her M.B.B.S. and M.D. from The University of Hong Kong. After completing her training, she joined the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, where she developed her expertise in clinical oncology. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (Clinical Oncology) in 1993 and a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists in 1996. Since 1995, she has been an integral member of the Department of Clinical Oncology at The University of Hong Kong, where she has risen to the rank of Clinical Professor.
Her research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with head and neck cancers, particularly nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), as well as esophageal and gastrointestinal cancers and paediatric cancers. She leads ongoing clinical trials and basic research initiatives aimed at developing innovative treatments and understanding the biology of these diseases. As a radiation oncologist, she is also deeply invested in studying radiation-induced complications and advancing radiation treatment technologies to enhance precision and reduce side effects.
